  • Bath Hospital Radio is a registered charity, formed in 1964.

  • Everyone involved is a volunteer. The current membership is 45 consisting of men and women ranging from teenagers to the retired.

  • Bath Hospital Radio is financially dependent on the fund-raising activities of its members. It receives no other regular income.

  • Requests are mainly gathered by members visiting the hospital wards to meet and chat with patients. This element of personal contact is especially important for those who are anxious to be in hospital.

  • The service is particularly appreciated in the long-stay wards. In the Royal National Hospital For Rheumatic Diseases, patients are often far from home and family. Regular ward visits and a favourite record request are especially welcomed.

  • The sport programme has provided full match commentaries on Bath Rugby matches over twenty years. This service proves especially popular.

  • The service is widely recognised by healthcare professionals to contribute to the care package provided by hospitals, providing a comfort to those who are in hospital.

  • The radio station has a library of over 36,000 titles stored on long playing records, single records and compact discs.

  • Members receive a comprehensive training programme before broadcasting, contributing to the high quality of the service.

  • Bath Hospital Radio was the 2002 Hospital Radio Station of the Year in the UK, and a runner-up in 2003.

  • The charity is a member of the National Association of Hospital Broadcasting Organisations.
